  • Alcohol: Any beverage containing alcohol, including beer, wine, and spirits.


3. Policy Guidelines


  • Prohibition of Drugs and Alcohol: The possession, use, or influence ofillegal drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited on nursery premises and duringany nursery-related activities.


  • Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medications: Staff may only administerprescription or over-the-counter medications to children with written consentfrom parents/guardians. All medications must be stored securely andadministered by management according to the nursery’s medication policy.


4. Staff Responsibilities


  • All staff members must adhere to this policy and report any violations to thenursery manager or designated safeguarding lead.
  • Staff are expected to arrive at work in a fit state to care for children, free fromthe influence of drugs or alcohol.


5. Parent and Visitor Guidelines


  • Parents and visitors are not permitted to consume alcohol or use drugs whileon nursery premises or during nursery events.
  • If a parent or visitor is suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,staff will take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of the children, including contacting emergency contacts if necessary.


6. Support for Staff


  • Staff struggling with substance misuse are encouraged to seek support. The nursery will provide information on accessing help and counselling services.
  • Confidentiality will be maintained for staff seeking support regarding substance misuse.


7. Emergency Procedures


  • In the event of an emergency related to drug or alcohol use, staff will follow the nursery’s emergency procedures, including contacting local authorities if necessary.


8. Policy Review and Monitoring


  • This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner, if necessary, in response to changes in legislation or best practices.
  • Regular training and awareness sessions will be provided to staff regarding this policy.
