At Be. Independent Day Nursery, we believe that a positive environment is essential for effective learning and development. This Behaviour Policy outlines our approach to promoting positive behaviour, ensuring that all children feel safe, respected, and valued. 5. Responding to Challenging Behaviour
5.1 Identifying Triggers
- Staff will observe and identify potential triggers for challenging behaviour and work to address these through individualized support and interventions.
5.2 Consistent Approaches
When challenging behaviour occurs, staff will respond consistently, calmly, and respectfully, following these steps:
1. Assess the situation: Ensure the safety of all children involved.
2. Intervene appropriately: Use verbal de-escalation techniques to address the behaviour.
3. Discuss the behaviour: Help the child understand the impact of their actions and how they can make different choices in the future.
4. Involve parents: If challenging behaviour persists, staff will communicate with parents to discuss strategies and collaborate on solutions.
5.3 Exclusions

- In extreme cases of persistent challenging behaviour that poses a risk to the safety or well-being of others, a temporary exclusion may be considered. This will be done in consultation with parents and in line with statutory guidance.
6. Parental Involvement
We encourage open communication with parents about behaviour and support strategies. Parents will be informed of their child's behaviour, both positive and challenging, and will be invited to discuss concerns and collaborate on solutions.
7. Monitoring and Review
- Staff will regularly review and monitor behaviour to identify patterns and effectiveness of strategies. This information will inform any necessary adjustments to our approach.
- This Behaviour Policy will be reviewed annually or as necessary to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practices.
