CCTV policy

1. Introduction


This CCTV policy outlines the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at Be. Independent Day Nursery. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the effective and lawful use of CCTV in a way that protects the safety and well-being of children, staff,

and visitors, while also respecting their privacy rights.


2. Purpose of CCTV


CCTV is used at Be. for the following purposes:


  • To enhance the safety and security of children, staff, and visitors.
  • To deter and detect criminal activity and misconduct.
  • To assist in the investigation of incidents, accidents, or disputes.
  • To monitor the nursery premises for maintenance and safety issues.


3. Legal Basis for CCTV Use


We are committed to complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. The use of CCTV is justified as it is necessary for the purposes of protecting the vital interests of individuals and ensuring the safety of children in our care.


4. Location of Cameras


CCTV cameras are installed in strategic locations around the nursery, including:


  • Entry and exit points.

Cameras are not placed in areas where individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as bathrooms and changing rooms.


5. Data Retention


Recorded footage will be retained for a maximum of 30 days unless it is needed for an ongoing investigation or for legal purposes. After this period, the footage will be automatically overwritten.


6. Access to Footage


Access to CCTV footage is restricted to authorized personnel only. This may include:


  • The nursery manager.
  • Designated staff members responsible for security.

Requests for access to footage by external parties, including parents, will be assessed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with GDPR.

7. Privacy Considerations


The nursery is committed to respecting the privacy of individuals. Signs will be posted to inform staff, parents, and visitors of the presence of CCTV and its purposes.


8. Staff Training


All staff members are made informed by management around the usage, purpose and retention guidelines surrounding CCTV footage at the setting. Staff are expected to handle any recorded footage responsibly and in compliance with this policy.


9. Policy Review


This CCTV policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
