Allergy and dietary requirements policy

Policy Statement At Be. Independent Day Nursery, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in our care, particularly concerning allergies and dietary requirements. This policy outlines our approach to managing allergies

and dietary needs in compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.

1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Identify and manage allergies and dietary requirements effectively.
  • Ensure all staff are trained and aware of their responsibilities.
  • Provide a safe environment for children with allergies or special dietary needs.

  • Dietary Requirement: Specific nutritional needs due to health conditions, religious beliefs, or personal preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free).

3. Identification of Allergies and Dietary Requirements

  • This information will be reviewed and updated regularly, especially when a child’s needs change.

4. Staff Training

  • All staff members will receive training on recognizing allergic reactions and managing allergies and dietary requirements.
  • Training will include understanding how to use emergency medication (e.g., EpiPens) and recognizing the signs of an allergic reaction.

5. Safe Food Preparation and Handling

  • All meals and snacks will be prepared with consideration for children’s allergies and dietary requirements.
  • A detailed menu will be provided, clearly indicating any allergens present.
  • Separate preparation areas will be used for allergen-free foods to prevent cross-contamination.
